If they become too abundant, they can cause damage to natural waters and pond farms by consuming eggs and young, and can therefore make life quite miserable for anglers where they are found. There are few effective methods to reduce the population, but a possible solution is the use of dwarf gillnets. There are no restrictions on their catch and it is justified to fish for them in intensive waters. If they become too abundant in a water area, they may make fishing with conventional baits impossible.
